If you’ve found government childcare funding confusing, you’re not alone — the rules have changed several times in recent years. The good news is that more working families than ever can now get meaningful help with nursery costs.

What’s changing from September

The expansion of funded hours for working families now reaches younger children. Eligible working parents of children from 9 months old can access 15 funded hours, rising to 30 hours for many families.

• 15 hours universal — all 3 and 4 year olds
• 30 hours extended — working families meeting the income threshold
• From 9 months — funded hours now reach younger children

Don’t assume you won’t qualify. The thresholds have widened, and many families are surprised by what they’re entitled to.
