Baby room
A calm, nurturing environment for our youngest children. Low-level resources, safe floor space, and a separate sleep area that respects each child's own routine.
Our Nursery
Our nursery is purpose-built — not a converted office, not a shared community space, but a 7,000 square foot setting designed from the ground up for children from 8 weeks to 5 years. It's in one of London's most distinctive neighbourhoods, and it shows.
Our building at 14 West Smithfield gives us space that most central London nurseries can't offer. Seven thousand square feet means generous room sizes, separation between age groups, and space for children to move, make noise, and be properly active — indoors.
Every room is designed around the age it serves, from the calm of the baby room to the busy, active spaces our pre-schoolers grow into.
At a glance
Four distinct spaces, each designed for how children play and learn at that stage.
A calm, nurturing environment for our youngest children. Low-level resources, safe floor space, and a separate sleep area that respects each child's own routine.
As babies find their feet, they move into a space built for early independence — room to explore, a dedicated sensory room, and resources within easy reach.
A busy, active room for growing curiosity — construction, role play, a village shop, reading nooks, and plenty of space to make noise and mess.
Our pre-school room prepares children for school — with focused learning areas, a messy and dining space, and plenty of room to move and be active.
A few of the spaces your child will spend their days in.
Our meals are cooked on-site every day. The kitchen is part of the building — which means fresh smells, warm food, and no packed lunches.
Breakfast, snacks, a two-course lunch and tea are all prepared by our own kitchen team using fresh ingredients.
Entry to our building is controlled by a secure intercom and key fob system. All visitors are signed in, and the building is monitored by CCTV throughout. Our staff are trained in safeguarding and in recognising and responding to any concerns about a child's safety.
Only authorised adults may collect children. If collection arrangements change, we need to hear from you directly — we won't release a child to anyone we haven't been told to expect.
Smithfield House sits at 14 West Smithfield — the western edge of the historic Smithfield Market, within the City of London. It's one of the most characterful locations in central London, a neighbourhood with a genuine sense of place.
For working families, the location is a practical asset. We're within easy walking distance of:
Many of our families work in the City, Canary Wharf (via the Elizabeth line from Farringdon), or at St Bartholomew's Hospital — directly adjacent to our building. Drop-off on the way to work isn't a detour; it's on the route.
Our nursery is immediately adjacent to St Bartholomew's Hospital, one of London's largest NHS teaching hospitals. Many of the families we care for work there. We understand the particular demands of shift patterns and NHS working life, and we're experienced in supporting families navigating them.
Smithfield House is affiliated with the City of London Corporation — something we're proud of, and something that reflects our long-standing roots in this part of London. We're not just located in the City; we're part of it. Read more about our affiliations →
Words and photographs only go so far. The best way to understand what our setting is like is to walk through it. Book a tour and meet the team.
